So, for this problem you need to subtract the amount of rope that Felipe cut away. 

5m - 1.98m= 3.02 meters of rope left.

Possible answer: (this is only if your Professor is trying to be tricky) Technically Felipe still has 5 meters of rope, but it is in two pieces of different lengths
. I think you could make an argument for either answer. I chose the answer that I thought was more likely correct.
