It becomes a positively charged atom. That is also called a cation. When electrons are gained, the atom becomes negatively charged(anion). On the other hand, when a atom loses electrons, it becomes positively charged. When an atom lost or gain electrons it becomes an ion. If it shared electrons, it is a covalent bond, meaning that it has neutral charge because it is not losing nor gaining.
