Alexis wanted to buy a car that was originally priced $17,000. This week it went on sale flr 25% off. How much would Alexis pay for the car?

First, you would need to create an equation for this problem. Remember, 25% = 0.25. 
$17,000 - ($17,000 × 0.25)

Now, all you would have to do is solve it. You would start inside the parenthesis, using the order of operations (PEMDAS). 
$17,000 - ($17,000 × 0.25)
$17,000 - $4,250 = $12,750

The discounted price that Alexis would have to pay for the car would be 
$12,750.
