first find the slope using
[tex] \frac{y2 - y1}{x2 - x1} = \frac{12 + 6}{ - 6 - 10} = \frac{18}{ - 16} [/tex]
reduce if possible so it would be -9/8

then use the point slope intercept form
y-y1=m(x-x1)

[tex]y - 12= \ \frac { 9}{8} (x + 6)[/tex]
the fraction is negative -9/8

then you solve
y-12=-9/8x+6.75

y=-9/8x+18.75 that would be your equation
