Subtract the first equation from the second to get:

4y-y=2x-2x+8+3

Simplifying, we see that 3y=11, so y=11/3.  Substituting this into the first equation, we have:

11/3=2x-3

Adding 3, we see that 2x=20/3, so x=10/3.
