What happened to indentured servants in the southern colonies during the 1600's

Indentured servants in the south during the sixteen hundreds were made to serve and work without wages. In exchange, they got free transportation to the Americas, lodging, and food. They had a lot more freedom than the slaves during the 1700s-Early 1800s had.
