They are both reflexive and intensive The reflexive pronouns are used to reflect back to the antecedent; the intensive use is to emphasize the antecedent. Reflexive (and intensive) pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves.

Themselves is a intensive pronoun because it adds emphasis in to the subject or antecedent of that sentence
