In the New England colonies, kids were apprentices and were not really required to exert much physical strength towards daily life. Boys were apprentices of butchers, black smiths, leather making, or printing. Girls would learn how to bake, sew dresses, and other feministic things. Kids did farm work in the south. Boys harvested crops and carpentry. Girls did domestic work.
