For some number [tex]x[/tex], we subtract [tex]0.1x[/tex] and get 171.

So we have:
[tex]x-0.1x=171[/tex]
[tex]\rightarrow 0.9x=171[/tex]
[tex]\rightarrow x=190[/tex]
