The North was mainly industrial.The South was mainly agrarian. There were some mutual needs between the two (for example the South produced cotton and the North manufactured clothing, so the North needed what the South had to make clothes, and the South needed to buy the clothes that the North made), but the lifestyles were so different that the two regions had little in common besides that
