The slope direction of the central highlands is west-east and Deccan plateau is south-west to north-east. The Peninsular plateau's extension is seen to the extent of Jaisalmer in the west where it is encompassed by cresecent-shaped sand dunes and longitudinal sand ridges called barchans.
