Marbury versus Madison took place in 1803 and was the most defining case in the constitutional law of the United States because it has established the American constitution to be treated as an actual set of laws.

As a result, the judicial review has been introduced and gave the capacity to the U.S. courts to overrule, in particular, statues and government actions, which go in violation of the American Constitution.
