y = (x + 4)(x - 2)

The x-intercepts:

0 = x + 4
0 = x - 2

x = -4
x = 2

The vertex:

y = (x + 4)(x - 2)
y = x^2 + 2x - 8
x = -b/2a
If ax^2 + bx + c, then:
a = 1
b = 2
c - 8
x -2/2(1)
x = -1
y = (-1)^2 + 2(-1) - 8
y = -9

The vertex is (-1, -9)
The x-intercepts are -4 and 2
