2x - h = x + a      add h to both sides

2x = x + a + h     subtract x from both sides

x = a + h

To solve for x, you have to get x by itself/alone on one side of the equation.

2x - h = x + a

First you can subtract x on both sides to get the x on one side. (you could subtract either 2x or x)

x - h = a

Next you add h on both sides to get x by itself.

x = a + h

and that is your answer
