A sentence' main parts are the subject and the predicate. While the subject indicates the noun or pronoun that is being dealt with in the sentence, the predicate is the part of the sentence that contains a verb (and sometimes other objects and modifiers), and whose function is to indicate what the subject does or is. The predicate, then, always states something about the subject.
